BOWLING FOR BABIES
In 2004 Bowling for Babies was born! It is an event created to provide financial support the March of Dimes, an organization that works tirelessly to help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies. The purpose of the event is not only to provide a family-oriented, enjoyable activity for the community – but more importantly, to raise awareness for prematurity – something that affects far too many families. According to the March of Dimes:
• 1 in 8 babies is born prematurely are born prematurely in the US; 40% of the time the cause is unknown
• More than 120,000 babies are born with a birth defect; the cause is unknown in 70% of cases
• Worldwide, 13 million babies are born prematurely
Bowling for Babies is just one of many programs demonstrating our dedication to this cause. A portion of the event proceeds also benefit the Zetas of Charlotte Benevolent Foundation to enable the non-profit to provide educational scholarships and coordinate a number of community-focused programs.
Since 1971, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has enjoyed a partnership with the March of Dimes in an effort to encourage women to seek prenatal care within the first trimester of pregnancy, thereby increasing the prevention of birth defects and infant mortality.
